ÒÄ¡ø ÁÚò¾ø - The Renunciation of Flesh
1. ¾ýëû ¦ÀÕì¸üÌò ¾¡ýÀ¢È¢Ð °ÛñÀ¡ý
±í¹Éõ ¬Ùõ «Õû.
How can he be possessed of kindness who to increase his own flesh, eats
the flesh of other creatures.
¾ý ¯¼õ¨Àô ¦ÀÕì¸î ¦ºöžü¸¡¸î ¾¡ý Áü§È¡÷
¯Â¢¡¢ý ¯¼õ¨Àò ¾¢ý¸¢ýÈÅý ±ùÅ¡Ú «ÕÙ¨¼ÂÅÉ¡¸ þÕì¸

2. ¦À¡Õǡ𺢠§À¡üÈ¡¾¡÷ìÌ þø¨Ä «ÕÇ¡ðº¢
¬í¸¢ø¨Ä °ý¾¢ý ÀÅ÷ìÌ.
As those possess no property who do not take care of it, so those
possess no kindness who feed on flesh.
¦À¡ÕÙ¨¼ÂḠþÕìÌõ º¢ÈôÒ, «ô¦À¡Õ¨Ç
¨ÅòÐì ¸¡ôÀ¡üȾÅ÷ìÌ þø¨Ä; «ÕÙ¨¼ÂÅá¸
þÕìÌõ º¢ÈôÒ, ÒÄ¡ø ¾¢ýÀÅ÷ìÌ þø¨Ä.
3. À¨¼¦¸¡ñ¼¡÷ ¦¿ïºõ§À¡ø ¿ýê측Р´ýÈý
¯¼øÍ¨Å ¯ñ¼¡÷ ÁÉõ.
Like the (murderous) mind of him who carries a weapon (in his hand),
the mind of him who feasts with pleasure on the body of another
(creature), has no regard for goodness.
µ÷ ¯Â¢¡¢ý ¯¼õ¨Àî ͨÅ¡¸ ¯ñ¼Å¡¢ý ÁÉõ
¦¸¡¨Äì ¸ÕÅ¢¨Âì ¨¸Â¢ø ¦¸¡ñ¼Å¡¢ý
¦¿ïºõ§À¡ø ¿ý¨Á¡¸¢Â «Õ¨Çô §À¡üÈ¡Ð.
4. «ÕÇøÄР¡¦¾É¢ø ¦¸¡øÄ¨Á §¸¡Èø
¦À¡ÕÇøÄÐ «ùçý ¾¢Éø
If it be asked what is kindness and what is opposite the answer would
be preservation and destruction of life; and therefore it is not
right to feed on the flesh (obtained by taking away life).
«Õû ±Ð ±ýÈ¡ø µ÷ ¯Â¢¨ÃÔõ ¦¸¡øÄ¡ÁÄ¢Õò¾ø;
«ÕÇøÄ¡¾Ð ±Ð ±ýÈ¡ø ¯Â¢¨Ãì ¦¸¡øÖ¾ø;

5. ¯ñ½¡¨Á ¯ûÇÐ ¯Â¢÷¿¢¨Ä °Ûñ½
«ñ½¡ò¾ø ¦ºö¡Р«ÇÚ.
Not to eat flesh contributes to the continuance of life; therefore if a
man eat flesh, hell will not open its mouth (to let him escape out, after he has once
fallen in).
¯Â¢÷¸û ¯¼õÒ ¦ÀüÚ Å¡Øõ ¿¢¨Ä¨Á, °ý
¯ñ½¡¾¢Õò¾¨Ä «ÊôÀ¨¼Â¡¸ì ¦¸¡ñ¼Ð; °ý ¯ñ¼¡ø ¿Ã¸õ

6. ¾¢Éü¦À¡Õð¼¡ø ¦¸¡øÄ¡Ð ¯Ä¦¸É¢ý ¡Õõ
Å¢¨Ä¦À¡Õð¼¡ø °ý ¾ÕÅ¡÷ þø
If the world does not destroy life for the purpose of easting, then no
one would sell flesh, for the sake of money
ÒÄ¡ø ¾¢ýÛõ ¦À¡ÕðÎ ¯Ä¸ò¾¡÷ ¯Â¢÷¸¨Çì
¦¸¡øÄ¡¾¢ÕôÀ¡Ã¡É¡ø, Å¢¨Ä¢ý ¦À¡ÕðÎ °ý
Å¢üÀÅ÷ ±ÅÕõ þøÄ¡Áü §À¡Å¡÷.
7. ¯ñ½¡¨Á §ÅñÎõ ÒÄ¡«ø À¢È¢¦¾¡ýÈý
Òñ½Ð ¯½÷Å¡÷ô ¦ÀÈ¢ý.
If men should cme to know that flesh is nothing but the unclean ulcer
of a body, let them abstain from eating it.
ÒÄ¡ø ¯ñ½¡ÁÄ¢Õì¸ §ÅñÎõ; ¬Ã¡öóÐ «È¢Å¡¨Ãô
¦ÀüÈ¡ø. «ôÒÄ¡ø §Å§È¡÷ ¯Â¢¡¢ý Òñ ±ýÀ¨¾ ¯½ÃÄ¡õ.
8. ¦ºÂ¢¡¢ý ¾¨ÄôÀ¢¡¢ó¾ ¸¡ðº¢Â¡÷ ¯ñ½¡÷
¯Â¢¡¢ý ¾¨ÄôÀ¢¡¢ó¾ °ý.
The wise, who have freed themselves from mental delusion, will not eat
the flesh which has been severed from an animal.
ÌüÈò¾¢Ä¢ÕóÐ ¿£í¸¢Â «È¢¨Å ¯¨¼ÂÅ÷, µ÷
¯Â¢¡¢É¢¼ò¾¢Ä¢ÕóÐ À¢¡¢óÐ Åó¾ ¯¼õÀ¡¸¢Â °¨É
¯ñ½Á¡ð¼¡÷.
9. «Å¢¦º¡¡¢ó ¾¡Â¢Ãõ §Åð¼Ä¢ý ´ýÈý
¯Â¢÷¦ºÌò Ðñ½¡¨Á ¿ýÚ.
Not to kill and eat (the flesh) of an animal, is better than the
pouring forth of ghee etc., in a thousand sacrifices.

¬Â¢Ãõ §ÅûÅ¢¸û ¦ºö¾¨ÄÅ¢¼ ´ýÈý ¯Â¢¨Ãì ¦¸¡ýÚ ¯¼õ¨Àò
¾¢ýÉ¡¾¢Õò¾ø ¿øÄÐ.
10. ¦¸¡øÄ¡ý ÒÄ¡¨Ä ÁÚò¾¡¨Éì ¨¸ÜôÀ¢
±øÄ¡ ¯Â¢Õõ ¦¾¡Øõ
All Creatures wil join their hands together, and worship him who has
never taken away life, nor eaten flesh.
